On the origins of  Locoparasaxo

Its not really surprising that the saxophone stands as they are currently being sold through locoparasaxo.com and are finding their way to customers around the world, had its origins in getting together with a few good friends to play  music. Good things are bound to come of that.

Often, when we invite some more people over to join in with us, the place gets crowded with instruments, amp’s, stands, cables etc. very quickly. Everybody finds a spot, hooks up his gear and off we go! On breaks however we always seem to take up a lot more space all of a sudden. Everybody scrambling to find a spot to put down his or her instrument.

It was at a moment like that, looking for a half decent spot for my tenor that it occurred to me that the only really safe spot would be on the wall. Being a bit of a metal artist it didn’t take me long to dream up a sort of prototype and presented it to Sisko, my best friend and immense source of inspiration and encouragement in my attempts to master the tenor sax. After mounting it on one of the walls he commented so positively on the advantages of now always having a safe place to store his Conn that I realized just how brilliant my idea was. And since I had a fully equipped metal workshop at my disposal( courtesy of Fokker VOF)  that I should share this wonderful find with my fellow sax fanatics around the world. As one thing usually leads to another I studied the proportions of several saxophones and designed a series of wall mounted saxophone stands that are sturdy, reliable, easy to mount, easy on the eyes and will last a life time. Then came the sourcing of the neoprene, the finishing caps and other components, which took quite a while since I’m very picky.

In the mean time I registered locoparasaxo.com and had my friend at CPO Webdesign start the sitebuilding, which he did with tireless dedication ! For the coating I was advised by the good people of NTZ Industrial Coatings and we decided for a process of sandblasting, priming, electro static powdercoating (Du Pont) and baking the stands in an oven to give them the beautiful finish and silky feel they have.

All stands are made by hand in a workshop in my hometown Nijmegen, the oldest city of the Netherlands, founded over 2000 years ago.

When you receive your order from Locoparasaxo.com and enjoy the way it looks, feels and admire your beautiful instrument displayed in it, know that there’s a lot more to it then meets the eye! Things like passion for music and saxophones are in there too, and  balanced  design,  craftsmanship, enthusiasm for the advantages of the stands and, last but not least the love and support of many friends and family.

A big,big thank you goes out to Sisko van de Geer, Coen Ponsen, Natalie Brendel, Rob Spoelstra, John Groenen, Marcel van Vught, Jaap Fokker, Pieter Bos and many others for helping me to make this happen! And of course also to all of you ; our much appreciated customers!
