Special delivery for Hans Dulfer

Paddy Melis April 4th 2009 When you have very passionately developed an extraordinary find into a product ready for use you should find extraordinary people to introduce it to and test its merits. This was suggested by a friend while brainstorming about ways to put Locoparasaxo on the map. The first person who sprung to mind was of course one of Hollands finest, the widely acclaimed saxophone icon Hans Dulfer! So I mailed him a little note with some pics to find out what he thought of our new product and would he be interested to mount one or two in his house? I was happy to find a brief but very positive email in my inbox! He very much liked the idea of wall mounted sax stands for some of his horns but living in a windmill with slightly slanted walls he wasn't sure if that would work out. Being the handyman that I am I offered to come over and see if it could be done in a proper fashion. So on a nice sunny spring day I found my way through tiny towns and along dikes to his beautiful hideaway. Hans showed me around and after a bit of a chat I showed him the stands I brought. He liked the 'Brecker' stand best of all and we started looking for a good spot to mount the stand. Hans told me he was still recovering a little from a broken collarbone and that he had been trying to modify a bari stand into a playing stand for some shoulder relief. That didn't work out though, the positioning was just not right.

He thought the "Brecker' stand would be excellent to use in that fashion for the time being and he picked a spot for it where he could stand up straight and play! So after mounting it, he tried it out and played for a bit ......

Afterwards we chatted about all kinds of topics, like his collection of mouthpieces, music styles, embouchure, Maceo Parker, his daughter's performances with Prince, I left  with his promiss of thinking about a plan to display  some of his tenors in Locoparasaxo  Sax Stands. Hans Dulfer is extremely knowledgable on saxophones and a compelling story teller too! I really enjoyed spending some time with him and  I'm looking forward to the next visit !! Thank you so much for your support Hans!!
